Air conditioning is deemed an essential right in some states
She wants to see my friend who recently relocated to the desert. When I went to that part of the country a few years ago, the heat nearly killed me. Because my mother’s birthday is in July, we were in the middle of the desert during the summer’s hottest months to celebrate her 60th birthday. We are accustomed to hot weather because we live in the south of the country, but it will take some getting used to the dry heat. I’m not sure how anyone could have grown accustomed to that level of heat. Due to the extreme heat in the state, all landlords are required by law to offer air conditioning. According to state law, air conditioning is a requirement for a home to be deemed habitable and is thus regarded as an essential right. Legal action against the landlord may be taken if a tenant doesn’t have air conditioning or if the landlord doesn’t fix a broken air conditioner in a timely manner. There are some landlords out there who just don’t care and they always deal with the consequences that they created. I can see why this is a requirement in this state because our bodies are delicate, particularly for the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. With temperatures in the triple digits, it is very likely that we will experience a heat stroke if it is too hot. However, I will reserve my ticket before it gets too hot because I will be visiting my friend. I want to spend time outside without having to worry about rushing inside a cool structure to escape the heat.
