I know some people who froze to death in the winter
People have to be aware of inclement weather. A lot of my family lives out in tornado alley. Every year they have to contend with the fact that a tornado could appear out of nowhere in a matter of moments and destroy every aspect of their entire lives. It’s heart-wrenching seeing the survivors on TV following a really catastrophic tornado event. I live in an area that gets hit by hurricanes and know full well the sort of destruction that can affect the environment just based on natural forces alone. There was a hurricane that tore through this area last Autumn and I’m lucky I didn’t lose my roof. A lot of people have tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage at bare minimum, and that’s not even considering the people that lost everything they owned. But to be honest, cold temperatures can be just as deadly as tornadoes and hurricanes. We’re here where there are people who freeze to death when there’s a power outage or a sudden ice storm. It’s really saddening to think about people who would otherwise be okay as long as they had supplemental forms of heat in their homes during these weather emergencies. One of my uncles froze to death inadvertently one evening when there was a bad power outage. He wasn’t found until a few days later by one of his neighbors. It’s a sad situation all around, and that’s why I’m so sensitive about the topic. Luckily I live in an area where temperatures in the winter are fairly warm. Some days I’m actually using my air conditioner in the winter if you can believe it.
