I was uneasy about going to the employee picnic on Thursday. I knew it was going to be a nice afternoon with overheated weather and sunny skies. I was recognizably uneasy about my kids. They tend to get into trouble and I didn’t want them to start an argument or cause trouble at the employee picnic. My men are 12 and 13 and they seem to find trouble wherever they go. The weather was lovely when the two of us woke up on Thursday and the kids were happy to spend the afternoon at the lake. My spouse made everyone lunch with eggs, bacon, toast, and juice. Both of us got to the lake around 10:00 a.m. and everyone was starting to arrive around the same time. I brought a cooler and a canopy and a couple of lawn chairs. My spouse and I sat in the shade while the two of us watched the kids play. Both of us tried to keep an eye on the boys. It was a truly tepid and humid afternoon and the shaded canopy didn’t help much at all. I wanted to leave after lunch, but the kids were having a fantastic time. I kept finding reasons to sneak over to the powder rooms. They had a/c and they were truly cool. There was easily a 20° temperature difference between outside and the air conditioned powder rooms. The third time I went to the powder room to enjoy the a/c, my spouse asked me if I was having trouble with my stomach. She thought I had diarrhea, although I confessed that I was going to the powder room just to rest in the cool air for a couple of sevenths.
