It was last year when my buddy was telling me all about this DIY ductless mini chop she installed.

She explained to me how she studied a bunch of upgrade videos carefully before deciding that was something she could pull off.

She said it wasn’t legitimately challenging and she would help me install this type of HVAC if I wanted. She showed me some of the DIY options, but I wasn’t sure that I wanted to go that route. I genuinely wanted a greater method with more zones and I saw the DIY models didn’t seem to go more than 4 zones. I wanted at least 5 or 6 zones, however she said I could consistently get many of the DIY models. Still, I thought it would be best to run everything off a single condenser and so I looked at other ductless mini splits. I found this really nice one that had 5 zones and I thought that was perfect. I obtained it in the early Springtime and had it delivered within the month which wasn’t a terribly long wait. The thing is, I studied videos that showed that any ductless mini chop could be installed by the average homeowner, you just had to flare the lines yourself and handle the electrical connections carefully. Of course, you must have an HVAC professional come out to charge the refrigerant to your system! So it’s not 100% DIY, but it’s still DIY friendly! I didn’t have an issue installing all the zones and I had to get a few lineset extensions to reach the other side of the house. That was the line that went to my garage; Everything went smoothly when the HVAC pro was charging the refrigerant and testing the levels. She also checked for leaks and said I did a superb task.
