Our local gym closed for the winter.

I had never heard of the gym that closes for the winter.

When I moved into the area, I was excited to have a gym within a walking distance of where I lived.

I could go swimming all year long regardless of the season or the weather. Swimming had always been one of my favorite things to do. I remembered when my father first taught me how to swim. I was only three years old and petrified. I was afraid that when he picked me up and put me in the water I was going to fall to the bottom, and they would never find me again. My father made me feel safe as he wrapped his arms around me and showed me how to kick my legs and paddle my arms to keep me afloat. Ever since then, I feel like a fish out of water when I haven’t been swimming for more than a week. I moved in the early spring, and I spent at least twice a week at the gym. The gym was relaxing and calming, and the people were amazing. It was nearing Thanksgiving when I’d last been to the gym to go swimming, and I was eager to get back into the pool once the holidays were over. You can only imagine my dismay when I got to the gym and saw the sign that they were close for the winter. Who closes a gym because it’s winter? I soon found out that the people who ran the gym went south for the winter. They left right before the holidays, and didn’t return until early April. I had to find a new gym that had a pool open all year round.
