Keeping fit as I grow older

Keeping fit as I grow older

I enjoy kayaking, hiking and playing tennis

I recently turned fifty-seven years old. I have noticed that the majority of my peers are severely overweight. Many of them have retired from their jobs and do little more than sit around. They like to camp all summer, sitting around a campfire, drinking beer and eating. They aren’t careful about their diets and consume a great deal of red meat, processed food, alcohol, sweets and empty calories. They get very little exercise. Several of my friends have purchased golf carts to eliminate the need to walk to visit their neighbors or get the mail. They often complain about aches and pains. Most of them are taking medication and have needed multiple surgeries. I cannot understand their willingness to slow down and allow their health to deteriorate. I am determined to live as long as possible. I want to enjoy peak quality of life. I have no intention of giving up the activities I enjoy any time soon. To accomplish this, I take very good care of my body. I workout every single day, and my training sessions are extremely demanding. I devote approximately sixty minutes to exercise and make sure that I’m sweaty and breathing hard by the end of it. Along with elevating my heart rate and expanding my lungs, I focus on strengthening my core, balance and flexibility. I am taking precautions to avoid needless injury. I also keep active in my regular, daily life. I enjoy kayaking, hiking and playing tennis. I regularly tackle home improvement projects, mow the lawn and work in the gardens. I play soccer, tag and all sorts of games with my grandkids.
