He asked me to marry him, and then left.
My boyfriend was an HVAC technician, which is how I met him. I had just moved into the apartment building when the air conditioning unit went out. He was the HVAC technician they sent to work on the HVAC system. He was in the basement working on the AC unit when I walked in to do my laundry. We were talking the entire time he was working on the HVAC system. I think it took him longer than usual to find the problem, and I asked him if he was getting paid by the hour? We flirted a little longer and then he asked if I lived in the building. I pointed to the laundry and then to the key on my wrist, and he blushed. He asked if I had a boyfriend and then if I would like to go for dinner with him. He was off work at seven. I knew how long it took to get around the city on a Saturday night. I wrote down my phone number and apartment number and gave it to him. I told him to call when he headed back to the HVAC company and I would cook dinner. That was six months ago, and we were still dating. Last week, we were having dinner at our favorite restaurant, when he suddenly dropped on one knee. He had just asked me to marry him when his phone rang. He smiled and said he had to go back to work. I’m pretty sure this was just the first of many dinners we would miss because of his HVAC job, but I didn’t mind. We were getting married.
