My AC can get really dirty

My air conditioner is a pretty disgusting system.

There is always something icky wrong with it. First, dust is a major killer for an air conditioner. I need to change my air filter monthly in order to not let pounds of dust get into the system. Still, dirt, hair and animal dander tends to get inside my AC from time to time. Another killer is mold. On my cooling coil mold likes to form. This is because it is a dark, moist place in the AC. It isn’t good to just leave the mold too. The air blows right over the cooling coil. I don’t want my indoor air quality to have mold spores in it. Another concern is algae. The condensate drain can accrue quite a bit of water overtime. If I am not on it by mucking out the drain, aglae forms and blocks it. Not only is it disgusting, but then my AC is leaking water everywhere and not running efficiently. Finally my AC is connected to ductwork. I still need to check the HVAC ducts from time to time. Small animals, dust, webs and hair can get into the ductwork and linger there. Then my indoor air quality is polluted even more. I do a lot of the AC clean up myself, but I can only go so far. Once a year I call my HVAC serviceman to come and do a thorough cleaning. I have him wash all the inner workings of my system. I make sure the ductwork is still clean and that everything is in tip top shape. It helps knowing that everything is ready to go for the upcoming summer season.
