Each year, for the last several, I’ve tried to up our game a bit when it comes to saving on HVAC cooling costs.

The a/c plus the amount that it’s needed is honestly the HVAC issue in this region.

The heating in the HVAC is absolutely not a big deal in this particular part of the country. Shoot, I don’t recognize our heat pump even comes on a dozen times over the Winter for HVAC heating. Nope, it’s the HVAC cooling that dominates any of the heating plus cooling conversations in the whole region. I always have made sure that the home is sealed up slim in order to maximize the efficiency of the central HVAC unit. And control unit control is simply a must if you’re going to seriously attempt any sort of savings on HVAC costs over the summer. Our summers are brutally hot. So it takes some creativity to squeeze out every little bit of savings on the cooling costs that I can. This year, I’m making sure that the direct afternoon light heating is fully mitigated. I ordered some solar shades that completely negate any sort of direct afternoon light heating. And I’m going to try to only cook on the grill this summer. Just not using the stove or the oven keeps me from heating up the house. And I put up a laundry line as well in the back. I’m going to do away with using the dryer which also heats up the home as much as I possibly can. All the little things end up being a big deal when it comes to saving on HVAC usage.
