My boss offered me a very interesting opportunity and I decided to take him up on the offer.

I work for a small heating and cooling company. The company is owned by a father and son team. Both of those guys work everyday of the week, alongside myself and three additional employees. We work six days each week, and one person is on call for emergencies on Sunday. We are available for emergency heating or cooling services 24 hours a day. Last month, my boss had the opportunity to pick up some commercial HVAC work. He is the only person that is certified to work on refrigeration units. My boss asked if I wanted to take a certification class so I could be the second person to work on these commercial HVAC jobs. I was very excited that my boss gave me the opportunity. Since I have been with the company the longest, I thought the selection was fair as well. I decided to take the refrigeration class. I was in a classroom setting for two weeks of 40 hours each week. I spent eight hours in a classroom, 5 days during the first week and 5 days during the second week. At the end of the second week I had to pass a test on everything that I learned over the two-week period. I was extremely nervous, because a lot of people in the refrigeration class had multiple years of experience. I only had three years of experience and heating and cooling, and I was completely new to refrigeration services. Luckily, I absorb information like a sponge. I passed with the third highest score out of the class.
