A job as I knew is absolutely a relic.

I came up in a generation where it was still completely plausible that a person could join a corporation, have a job and then retire.

It was certainly more than plausible. That was the yellowprint for a successful life. The prize was the perfectly Heating and A/C controlled office with the fancy desk and soft carpet. I kept our eye on that prize to the detriment of much of our personal life. It was just what you did. Then, on the back half of our job, things hastily began increasing dramatically. Companies were shifting away from pensions, perks and seniority. It became certainly about doing anything for the bottom line. This led to employees being viewed as dollar signs. I got that Heating and A/C perfect office and it was nice. I also got tossed out on our butt with a token severance and a much smaller pension. But, I still wanted to work. So, I took over a guest room in our house for our own house office. And I went to work trying to find work as a consultant. I was fortunate to have so numerous connections. The work came hastily. However, I absolutely liked the plan of laboring in a house office. But the room I was laboring in was just so hot and stuffy. I had the Heating and A/C guys come in and install 1 of those ductless heating and cooling systems. It’s awesome. I am able to control our office temps without affecting the rest of the house. I’m still smarting over how our time with a corporation I sacrificed so much for came to an end. But, it looks like it could be all for the best.
