Offering energy-saving tips to the heating technicians

My partner is the true definition of not judging a book by its cover.

She is covered in tattoos, has a few piercings but has a strict policy on never getting piercings on her face which I find ironic, and has jet black hair that goes past her lower back. She works in an IT firm and is the best coder I know. She has in recent times raved about this great digital thermostat that she wanted to have installed to replace her old temperature control system. This gave me an idea of what to get her for her birthday present. She loved flowers and cake but this would blow her away. Since it was to be a surprise, I told her that I would contact the local service provider to come for a furnace/heater tune-up in case the electric heat pump had an issue. She went on to say that if the electric heating system had a mechanical problem she would have noticed and already called the heating technician for a furnace heater repair. I insisted that problems always stemmed from nowhere, especially after a cold season and it was also time to fine-tune the zone control system. At this point, I knew I was making very little sense but I was determined to pull off that surprise. On the eve of her birthday, the heating contractor arrived with the smart regulator and informed me that it would make her experience with radiant floor heating much better and also reduce the overall whole-home heating energy consumption. All this was happening while she was at work. The serviceman laughed when he saw her picture and explained himself by saying that she had once offered some energy-saving tips to him and his colleague. Yes, that did sound like something she would do.
