Best option was ductless heating and cooling

This left us with the option of putting in a ductless multi split heating and cooling system.

Our house is older but we love it. It’s one of a kind and has been in my wife’s family for generations. We were able to buy it from the estate of her late uncle. I think her family sort of sets it up like that and handicaps the bids by income to keep it fair. The first thing we had to address was the heating and cooling equipment. Her uncle had somehow patched together a sort of quilted mishmash of HVAC. There was an old boiler in the basement that cost too much to run enough to really heat the house. So there were also space heaters scattered around the house. Additionally, there was like an entire squadron of window air conditioning units. It really was bizarre. We started the process by inviting a well qualified and highly recommended HVAC contractor to the house. He gave the place a thorough inspection and laid out our options. The boiler was a non starter. While I love radiant heating, the cost was just nowhere near sustainable. The cost of putting in ductwork, a gas furnace and then central air conditioning was also prohibitive. This left us with the option of putting in a ductless multi split heating and cooling system. I was a little resistant to this idea but the numbers were right and the HVAC contractor assured us we would like this heating and cooling equipment. Well, it’s been several years now and that HVAC professional was right on the money about ductless heat pumps. I love the house, the heating and cooling and just am so happy to be able to raise kids here as generations before us have.
