My AC Unit Froze

My AC Unit Froze

If I could go back in time, I would go back to Last yearand leave my AC system alone.

  • When I was convinced that the temperature was going to remain cool every morning, I turned off my AC unit & turned on my oil furnace.

I had been meaning to call the Heating & A/C contractor to come tune my Heating & A/C system before making the switch, even though I forgot & I was running the heat with the hopes that nothing would go wrong. Thankfully, nothing did go wrong with my oil furnace, so I decided to bypass the Heating & A/C tune up & wait until the Spring, and just when I thought that the weather was going to remain cold, the people I was with and I experienced a few afternoons where the temperature spiked above 78 degrees. It was sizzling & the inside of my lake house was sizzling despite opening the doors & windows. Instead of sticking it out, I turned on my AC unit & tried to cool my home. This is where things went wrong because only a few hours into running my AC unit again & I noticed a large amount of water around my condenser unit. When I took a closer look, I noticed that my coils were frozen, but the heat from the sunshine was causing them to melt. I called the Heating & A/C contractor instantaneously because I didn’t think the official way to handle the frozen coils. The Heating & A/C professional told myself and others that I’d set the thermostat too low, causing the coils to freeze instantaneously. I wish I would have left my AC unit alone!
