Most rock bands carry their own gear, & don’t have roadies or show techs… But the large, epic, headlining arena rock bands, the big guys, have an army of a crew that travels with them, you have security guys, of course, & you have the roadies to haul gear & set up the stage, and there are the people on the tech crew ,who handle the lighting & the sound, of course.

There are also a few “handlers” that just keep the band focused & glad; And then there is me, the only Heating & Air Conditioning tech on the crew, & our job is as pressing as anyone else’s! The down side is that I can’t ever take a evening off, because they have become so used to our a/c plan that they don’t want to perform without it.

I am at every single show, & usually I don’t need to get up once, because I make sure the Heating & Air Conditioning equipment is perfect before the show starts. There will be a rare occurrence where an A/C vent gets blocked ,or there is a minor issue, however I am proud to say all of us have never experienced a full breakdown of the system. I have set a series of metal grates on the stage, disguising the air vents, so that the band can go stand on a single of them & get a blast of chilly air whenever they need. Periodically the singer will just stand on an air vent for entire songs to keep himself from overheating. It is a dream job for an Heating & Air Conditioning tech & a rock & roll fan.
