I had just been elected to be on the school board at our local school district.

I was so excited and yet I was petrified when I walked into the first meeting as a member of the school board. I had no idea what they were going to discuss and I was afraid I wouldn’t have any knowledge of the subject. It didn’t take long to understand that I was the perfect candidate for this subject. They were discussing getting a new heating system for the elementary school. They had several heating systems in front of them, and the only heating system I didn’t see was the hydronic heating system. I interrupted the discussion and they allowed me to speak. I asked them why they weren’t taking the hydronic heating system into consideration. They told me the installation was too costly. Although the installation may have been a bit more costly because of the plumbing, hydronic heating systems were the most efficient heating system for an area such an elementary school. They hadn’t yet put the new flooring in and they could probably save money by buying special flooring that would be better for hydronic heating. Otherwise, they could purchase hot water baseboard heaters to go with the boiler system that created the hot water for the heating. The one member of the school board told me they already had a boiler that needed replaced. No one had explained to them that hydronic heating was a term for the boiler. After an hour of discussion, I had been elected to find the installer for the new plumbing and the new boiler system. They also wanted to purchase new hot water baseboard heaters.
