The holidays are also HVAC air filter time

But it doesn’t take long for the air filter to become nearly slicked over with that burnt candle wax

It’s pretty remarkable that I’m actually enjoying the holidays again. From the time I was about 13 until I married my wife, I dreaded the holidays. That period always meant that my mom would be cranking the thermostat to near subtropical temperatures. For me, there is nothing worse than sweating inside due to excessive heating when it’s freezing outside. It’s counter intuitive on just so many levels. Add to that the fact that I was the person who had to lug all the decorations down from the attic and move all the furniture. No dad, so it was me and my mom took advantage of that. She didn’t do anything but direct movements. Thus, I hated Christmas. That changed, mercifully, when I met my wife. She loves Christmas but in a sane and not over the top sort of way. Her only big indulgence when it comes to decorating are candles. My wife loves to have candles burning all the time during the holiday period. Our first Christmas in our first house nearly killed the HVAC unit because of our Christmas candle celebration. It didn’t dawn on me that much of the burned up wax enters the air. Guess where it all ends up? That’s right, it ends up being sucked into the HVAC return. And that’s where the HVAC air filter catches it. But it doesn’t take long for the air filter to become nearly slicked over with that burnt candle wax. This nearly smothered our first HVAC equipment. Needless to say, I buy a case of HVAC air filters right after Halloween every year now.
