My son was absolutely convinced that he was going to love going to college down south.
I tried to tell my son that he was going to be miserable.
After all, we live in the pacific northwest. We have a lot of rain, but the temperatures are colder. My son has always been accustomed to cool temperatures. When he told me that he applied to several colleges in the southeast, I immediately had a discussion with him about the humidity and the need for air conditioning. He still wanted to go to the beach school, so he accepted a scholarship to a school located 3500 miles away from home. My son left for college a couple of weeks ago and I have talked to him on the phone every single day. He is absolutely and totally miserable. The dorm room doesn’t have an air conditioner, so my son and his roommate have been using a single fan. My son calls to complain every single day. Last week he told me that he was ready to quit school and move back home. I knew my son would be miserable, but I didn’t want him to quit school and give up. I decided to buy a small portable air conditioner and I had it delivered to the dormitory. I even paid for express shipping so my son would have the portable air conditioner as soon as possible. As soon as he received the gift, he called me to say thank you. He immediately hooked up the air conditioner. Thank goodness he could use the window to vdnt the machine. I forgot about the exhaust the machine would have.
