The AC system lives on?

The AC system lives on?

This is a single of the brain teasers our sweet old Mom and I used to discuss.

  • Let’s say you have a hatchet, and the handle breaks, however as a fix, you go to the store and get a new handle and get back to work.

A few weeks down the road, the blade cracks, so you go to the store and get a new blade for the handle. It’s still technically your hatchet, however is it the same hatchet? He and I were discussing the problem again recently, after some task he had done in his house. I asked him outright if he finally got his seasoned a/c replaced, and he said he hadn’t, because it all still worked like it was new. So several of the parts had been replaced over the last fifteen years that even though the full A/C machine was that old, it had basically all new parts. The only original stuff from the old Heating and A/C system was the housing and the HVAC duct, all of the innards had been replaced over the years. So at no point did it become a different Heating and A/C system, we thought, however at the same time it sort of is a truly new system. The A/C tech who had come to the home had been beyond fascinated by the patchwork system, and asked our Mom a lot of questions about all of this. Apparently Mom had made some substitutes and used some old components that didn’t ordinarily go together, so this was a Frankenstein’s Monster of an antique conditions control system. I think that honestly answered the brain teaser, because this all started out as an Heating and A/C system and evolved into a hybrid monstrosity!
