Having a big soccer team is fine until the heater breaks

We were all going on a huge winter trip when I was the assistant coach of my school’s soccer team. It was myself and the head coach with 18 soccer team players we had. We were packed up with blankets, snow clothes, googles, food, water, trail mix and other stuff. We didn’t have more than a few hours to go until we got to the ski lodge, and we were on a snowy ice road. We got sidetracked and were starting to worry about the ice storm. We finally got to the hotel at 6 at night and unloaded. We were bundled up on the top floor, the room was very cold and the windows had ice on them. We knew it was a harsh winter but this particular weekend was below zero. We had an old heater from the 1960s or 70s it looked like. We had only our blankets and the old heater to rely on. The heater shook and squealed when you adjusted it. After we came back from our afternoon skiing and snowboarding, we realized the heater in the cabin was off. The cold air creeped in fast, it must have been 45 degrees in there! We weren’t HVAC repair men and had no idea what to do. We were stuck in the mountains. We assessed the food supply and got a call out to call an emergency technician out. They said it was already late afternoon and the fastest repairmen could be there the next morning. We had a long cold night and tried to keep heat in the cabin as long as we could. We were a little tired and cold, the heater was being worked on and done by the afternoon. We were happy it was on and learned our lesson about not having a backup plan.
