You went to school for HVAC?
When my brother went into the service, I didn’t realize it was going to be two years before I would see him again. He went right from boot camp to overseas, where he spent the next two years. In that time, I had graduated from high school and gone to a technical school for HVAC certification classes. I already had my HVAC certification and had a year of on-the-job training by the time my brother got home. I loved the job I was doing and the people I was working with. I thought I had the perfect job. I knew I was able to do the job that everyone else was doing, but then my brother came home. He was the same big brother he always was. He never thought I would amount to much and that I should just grow up and become a housewife with a husband who could take care of me. You can’t imagine how shocked he was when he realized I had gone to HVAC school and was now working in the local HVAC company. He thought I should be embarrassed to be working with these men. I was talking money out of their pockets and food off their tables. He thought they were only putting up with my working there because I was a woman and part of an affirmative action group of women. There wasn’t anything I could do to convince him that I was there because I was good at my job. When he realized I was working with some old pals of his, he chose to talk to them. My coworker told him that he was proud to work with me.
