I have a budding HVAC in my kindergarten class.
I have been a kindergarten teacher for many years now.
I have seen young children with amazing skills I knew would only improve as they aged.
I always encouraged them to do what came naturally, unless it was destructive. About ten years after I started teaching, I had an interesting young man come into my class. The first time I knew he was different, I had to call his mother into the classroom. He was sitting on the floor looking at the ceiling. He had noticed there was a pattern of flickers in the lights. I hadn’t even noticed I had called his mother, who could talk to him. She pointed out what he was looking at as he explained there had to be an interruption in the way the lights were functioning. Two weeks later, he had his ear to the wall. He said the heating system sounded like it was running funny and I couldn’t hear anything. He listened at the wall and told me that there was a definite problem with the furnace. Several times over the next couple days, he told me about the problem with the furnace. He even suggested I call his dad, who was an HVAC technician, and have him look at the furnace. When I finally got to meet his dad, I told him I thought he had a budding electrician or HVAC technician in my class. He laughed and said my student had been working with him since he was old enough to walk. He was always curious. His dad was the school’s HVAC technician, and he was there to repair the furnace.
