Staying fit as I get older

Staying fit as I get older

I recently turned 55 years old.

I’ve always made fitness a big priority in my life.

It’s important to me that I look and feel my best. I take pride in being able to fit into the same pants I wore in college. I know that when I workout regularly, I have more energy, am more productive and enjoy a more positive outlook. I believe my rather youthful appearance is because I’ve taken good care of myself. I make it a point to spend an hour on my physical fitness every day. I typically exercise first thing in the morning. While I frequently change up the style of workout to target all different muscle groups, I combine high intensity cardio with stretching and strength training. I incorporate equipment such as hand weights, weighted poles and ankle weights. I do lots of squats, lunges, push ups, mountain climbers and abdominal crunches. To get my heart pumping, I jump rope, run, ride my bike and do things like jumping jacks and burpees. I always make time to properly warm up and stretch. I am convinced that these efforts have allowed me to stay active. I still enjoy playing tennis with my kids, kayaking, rock climbing and skiing. I’m also very conscientious about my diet. I don’t drink coffee or pop and very little alcohol. I don’t smoke or take any prescription drugs. For breakfast I eat a banana and for lunch I have yogurt. My dinners typically consist of salads that include all different kinds of vegetables. I avoid fast foods, sweets and unhealthy snacks.
