Buying a stationary bike

Buying a stationary bike

A few years ago, I decided to add a larger piece of equipment to my fitness gear.

I’d always managed with some free weights, yoga mat, jump rope and resistance bands.

Hoping to improve the intensity of my workouts, I researched the different styles of machines on the market. I looked into various manufacturers of treadmills, rowing machines, ellipticals, stair climbers and stationary bikes. I checked out the pros and cons as well as the price range of each. Fitness equipment is extremely expensive and I didn’t want to regret my investment. In the end, I chose a stationary bike. I liked that the bike didn’t take up a ton of room and avoids impact on my knees and feet. It operates very quietly and offers a variety of programs to choose from. I can target time, distance or calories burned and listen to my music while I pedal. I am able to increase the intensity by upping the resistance with a tap of a button. I can burn a significant amount of calories in a relatively short time. I enjoy reading on my Ipad while I ride the bike. However, it’s easy to allow my pace to slow. I need to push myself to pedal fast and get the most out of my workout. Although I always end up sweaty and breathless, the bike is so enjoyable that I often feel I am cheating on my workout. I only allow myself to ride the bike once or twice a week. It is perfect for those days when I feel a bit lazy or don’t have the time for a more involved workout.
