Two weeks ago our cat split his paw.

I couldn’t figure out how he split it.

He was in the condo and I was working from home. I got up for some water and I observed bloody footprints all through the house. The split wasn’t terrible enough for stitches. Instead I wrapped up the paw and then cleaned up the mess although I couldn’t figure out how he got cut. Then it happened again 2 days ago. This time I heard a little yelp and I saw our cat start limping right away. I followed the bloody footprints backwards and found that the Heating and A/C vent cover in the guest study room has a sharp section on it. One of the grill pieces is broken and bent upwards. I guess the bed leg went through it at 1 time. I wrapped the cat’s paw again and cleaned up the mess. Then I detachd the Heating and A/C vent cover and closed off the guest study room. After work I went to a condo improvement store and purchased a modern vent cover. It was not unquestionably expensive. What was expensive is taking our cat to the vet yesterday. The split started looking infected so I had to pay for a vet visit and antibiotics. Additionally, our cat now acts afraid of Heating and A/C vent covers. He won’t go somewhere near them. This is unlucky because he loves to lay over the Heating and A/C vents. Hopefully he fully salvages and his paw heals and he loses his fear of Heating and A/C vent covers. I keep kicking myself because this all could have been avoided if I had just replaced the vent cover when it was first destructiond.
