As our parents grow older, I get increasingly worried about them plus their health. I visit them twice each week, however it’s not enough to assuage our problems. I try to do any service or repair labor to keep our father off ladders plus away from power tools. The last thing I want is for one of them to end up in the hospital after having an accident doing something I could have done for them myself. You’d think that putting up their Christmas tree would be safe, however I still insist on doing this for them as well. I get the tree, lights, plus decorations out of their basement plus I bring them into the kitchen upstairs. Recently I was inspecting their smoke detectors to make sure they all had great batteries inside. This is when I realized that our parents did not have carbon monoxide detectors. For someone with electric heat, this wouldn’t matter; unluckyly, our parents have a gas gas furnace. If the heat exchanger in the gas gas furnace cracked plus started leaking toxic carbon monoxide gas, they would have no way of knowing separate from the aid of carbon monoxide gas detectors. I spent a few hours Last month installing carbon monoxide detectors in numerous locations in their condo. This way if they run into concerns with their oil furnace in the future, they’ll find out immediately if it is leaking carbon monoxide gas. Knowing our parents have these current sensors in their home gives myself and others a lot of peace of mind. Still, it disturbs myself and others when I realize that they’ve been going separate from them for the last 20 years straight.
