Can’t fix the furnace because I’ll void the warranty

I get angry when I’m not trusted to complete a task that I know I’m capable of.

I’ve experienced this situation several times during my life.

I blame it on being young and being a woman. It’s infuriating to me. I have a difficult time standing back when I know it’s a task that I could complete on my own. I’m desperately trying to distract myself with hobbies and household tasks. I’m actually starting to get very antsy. The gas furnace in my home suddenly broke down. I have been relying on the heating unit occasionally, because the outdoor air temperature keeps fluctuating between warm and cold. Every few days, I would start up the furnace for a little extra heat, especially at night. This week, the furnace wouldn’t kick in. I’m convinced I could repair the furnace. My dad was an HVAC serviceman. I sometimes went to work with him. I’d ride around in the truck with him, help him with jobs and spent lots of time in the shop over the years. I learned a lot from my dad. I know how a gas furnace operates and how to get it started again. Since I wasn’t the HVAC contractor who installed the furnace, I can’t touch it. The manufacturer’s warranty states that only a certified HVAC contractor is allowed to service the heating equipment. If I tinker with it, I’ll void the warranty. So, I’ve spent the last few hours waiting for a tardy HVAC contractor to arrive at my home and complete the simple repair. I just want to resolve the problem.
