My father has been slowly showing myself and others the ropes with handyman labor & house maintenance.

I’m expecting a son in a few weeks & while our partner deals with the pregnancy, I have been signing mortgage paperwork & scheduling corporations.

This has all been on top of our busier than regular labor schedule. With all of the stress, having our Mom’s help through this chaos has been a Godsend. This week, he was helping myself and others make a decision on a potential plumbing maintenance after the plumber found more issues than either of us were expecting. With our age & lack of experience, it’s simple to be taken luck of by corporations & handymen. In this situation, our father confirmed the problem himself after the plumber finished the inspection. Since getting all of the plumbing & electrical repairs finished, every one of us have been looking at options to increase the efficiency of the central heating & cooling system. Although the a/c has a high SEER rating & is only a few years old, it could not get the condo as cool as it should. The Heating & A/C tech said that there were no leaks in the HVAC duct, but that they were poorly insulated. On top of that, the ducts are installed in an attic with absolutely no insulation of any kind. This is when I l acquired about the importance of insulating a house respectfully & how much it affects the performance of the central heating & cooling system. In our case, I was lucky enough to be presented with a problem that every one of us could legitimately solve. Since the rest of the condo has wonderful insulation with solid windows & doors, only the attic needed modifications. The people I was with and I used a spray gun that blasts insulation out in a wet foam that quickly expands & dries into a solid & effective layer of insulation. By adding insulation to our attic, I simultaneously increased the R value of our condo in the process.
