Too good to be true

Too good to be true

Then he never shows up

In my neighborhood there has been a lot of heating and air conditioning related scams lately. It is because of the fact that we recently lost our only heating and air conditioning business in town to them going broke. So at the moment everyone has to outsource to a heating and cooling dealership clear on the other side of town to get any kind of HVAC repair service. So you have all kinds of scam artists trying to get the better of everyone around here. The most recent one was an ad in the local paper saying that they offered ductwork and air duct cleaning for $29.95! Just the price in itself screams sales scam! Remember all those late night commercials where every ridiculous product that no one on earth would buy being that price? I actually was curious to see if anyone really believed this large lie. So I went on the internet and did a Google search for the heating and air conditioning independent contractor that was offering this. And I was actually not too surprised when I seen how many people believed this junk and got scammed! He takes your credit card on the phone and says it’s a pre payment just to make sure you keep the HVAC appointment. Then he never shows up. A few days later you will find your credit card information has been stolen and you are getting thousands of dollars worth of charges. The cops are on to this guy. But the newspaper has not pulled the ad yet! I am sure there are going to be some loss suits at the local paper coming soon.
