Cool and comfortable workspace
For years I have worked in a call center.
Most of them are pretty much the same set up and I never really minded spending my day in my little cubicle as it was like having my own little office.
The only issue with this set up is the fact that most buildings that house this type of atmosphere use overhead air vents for the HVAC system. There is a constant draft blowing down on you and you are normally too hot or too cold all the time. I always had to keep a small space heater under my desk or a fan that I could set up to blow on me depending on the time of year. I never had the opportunity to just be comfortable during my shift. When the opportunity to work from home this summer came up, I jumped on it. They were going to be doing some major renovations in our building and they were willing to set us up for a few months of working at home. What could be better than working in my own space, having full control over the HVAC system, and even working in my pajamas if I wanted. No drafty overhead vents blowing on me and worrying about using alternate heating or cooling devices. I wish that they would be willing to continue this arrangement after the renovations are complete but they don’t want employees to feel disconnected from the company. I can assure them that I would be perfectly fine with it myself. We already work in our own little world of our cubicles anyway and rarely talk to each other.
