Putting on an addition

Putting on an addition

When my wife and I first got married and moved to Arlington Heights, Illinois, my associate and I had a limited budget.

My buddy and I toured many houses before my associate and I finally found a condo in a location that suited us, then safety, privacy and a good sized grass were important to us.

My buddy and I didn’t mind an especially small condo that required updates. Our tiny condo was easily improved. The cost of a new roof, new windows and drywall were minimal. The expense of heating, cooling, electric and plumbing were affordable. I could clean the entire condo in a couple of hours. Over the years, we’ve added three kids, a dog and a pet to our household. Our tiny condo was abruptly cramped. When my associate and I put on the addition, my associate and I debated on how to handle temperature control. My buddy and I were unwilling to sacrifice space for HVAC duct. My buddy and I doubted the current boiler and cooling system could handle the additional square footage. After some research into numerous options, my associate and I chose ductless Heating, Ventilation, and A/C. The system consists of an outdoor compressor that connects to six independent air handlers. Each air handler features a control unit, accommodating zone control. We’re able to set a weird temperature in each one of the kids’ home offices, the lavatory and playroom, however despite the compact size of the system, it’s quite powerful and has no trouble handling the severe freezing and high heat of our local weather. I like that it runs quietly, takes up no residing space and minimizes both expense and carbon footprint. The ductless system requires little more than filter changes and has been beautifully reliable.
