Strange odor coming from my exterior Heating, Ventilation and A/C unit
We’ve always been pretty nice about general maintenance on our Heating, Ventilation and A/C system so when my buddy and I started having an issue my buddy and I were a bit surprised.
My nice friend and I only have it serviced every other year because my buddy and I don’t use it as much as multiple people do but I do perform preventive maintenance twice a year.
My nice friend and I use a high-performance filter on the system so that it can attract small dust particles and bacteria to keep the air in our apartment safe. I always make sure that the interior equipment and exterior equipment have ample space around them so that debris does not cause an issue as well. I provide a visual check of things like the coolant lines and wiring to make sure nothing has harmd them however the one thing I did not know that I needed to do was flush the drain lines on the a/c. My nice friend and I started to aroma a different odor when my buddy and I were outside, it aromaed like a stagnant pond and realized it was coming from the drain line of the a/c unit. I went online to see how I could maintenance this and multiple of the sites said that you can flush a simple bleach water mixture down the drain and it will kill any algae that has developed in the line. I followed the simple steps that were advocated and within a couple of afternoons the odor disappeared and the websites also said that this would help prevent harm to the a/c equipment from bacteria buildup. If you are not sure how to do this I highly request contacting an Heating, Ventilation and A/C professional to have them come take care of this for you. I am pretty handy so it isn’tthat difficult however if you are not proficient at apartment maintenance you are better to trust a professional.
