Easy tips to keep your a/c condenser clean
Most homeowners can accomplish minor service & repairs on their own if they are smart enough to study & follow a few basic tips.
I decided that I would try to clean the condenser on my a/c myself after learning the manual & following a few online tips.
First & foremost you need to always make sure to turn the power off to the equipment before trying to do anything relating to cleaning it. The manual instructed me on how to do this using the kill switch that was installed not far from the outside unit. Once that was done I was able to detach the exterior housing & expose the condenser to begin the cleaning process. First I was able to use a Shop-Vac to detach the leaves & debris that have blown in over the course of the winter time & following that I begin cleaning the condenser coils themselves. The website I inspected advocated using a easy cleaner solution & using care in cleaning so that I did not bend any of the panels on the condenser. By performing this easy task the equipment will run more efficiently & I made sure to change the filter once I completed the job as well. I will still have my system serviced at least once a year but at least I know I am doing the best I can to improve its efficiency & prolong the life of the unit. Taking care of easy things like cleaning & changing filters yourself can save you a significant amount of currency in the long run because your system will more than likely need less repairs.
