My laundry room is in serious need of new ventilation.
We have made some changes to our home over the past five years to make it more user-friendly.
By this I mean that we have expanded the bathroom to accommodate a large walk-in shower that can be used in the event that we are no longer able to stand in there and we have made adjustments to the location of the laundry room as well.
That used to be located in the basement and as we are getting older we have realized that we want to eliminate as many trips up and down the stairs as possible. While expanding the bathroom we had to use part of the small office space that was located on the main floor and then we converted what was left into an upstairs laundry room. The problem with the space is that it is located in the center of the house and there are no windows so we needed to be creative in finding ways to vent the dryer. Normally the dryer is vented to the exterior of the house but that was not convenient so we consulted with our HVAC dealer in ways to have proper ventilation in the room. He was actually able to design it in such a manner that it has been since right into the ductwork and out the exhaust that is associated with our HVAC system. We had to have a separate filtration unit put on it so that none of the dust from the dryer would accumulate in the ductwork and it was pretty clever how they did that as well. The system is similar to what is used in apartment buildings that are located in high-rise buildings as many of them don’t have access to an exterior wall either. We are really happy with the changes that we have made and know that as we grow older it will be much easier for us.
