My son wants to be an HVAC technician
My son wants to be an HVAC technician
I’ve been getting into arguments with my wife lately.
The arguments have been about our oldest boy.
He’s going to be graduating from high school this year. He is keenly intelligent, and he makes great grades nearly all around, although he never had much of an interest in some of the more difficult math. The point of contention between my wife and I is simple: she wants him to go to college, but he wants to become an HVAC technician and I support him in that choice. She thinks that because of his bright mind, he is better off going to college because she associates a degree with automatically making more money. I actually went to college myself, and I was saddled with a considerable amount of debt. I’m under no illusions that one must go to college to make a decent living. It is true that our son is quite bright, but he loves to work with his hands. He loves solving mechanical problems. I have tried to explain to my wife that the HVAC business can be very lucrative indeed. After all, people are going to be using climate control forever. I surely hope it’s never going away! Air conditioning is especially important in our town because of how hot and humid it gets. Our boy certainly won’t lack for a job if he chooses HVAC! I hope that my wife will understand this eventually. Our son is an adult, and if he has carefully considered his options, we should support his choice. I think he would make a fine HVAC technician!
