There goes the old HVAC unit
It was sort of weird to see the old heat pump in a heap laying in the back of the HVAC company truck. It was almost tragic in a way. This amazing piece of HVAC technology was now just parts and headed to be recycled. This was the same heat pump that provided quality heating and air for the better part of 25 years. That spanned the raising of our children and the many shifts in our lives. So to see that heat pump just tossed in that truck like so much trash sort of broke my heart. And how insane is that reaction? Of course, the heat pump is a machine that’s chock full of great HVAC technology. But the heat pump doesn’t have a heart or a brain. The heat pump can’t feel pain or understand it’s usefulness. Yet of course, I tend to humanize even something like a heat pump. I don’t know why I’m like that but it’s been that way my entire life. When I finally got my first big boy bike with 10 speeds, my dad wanted to give away my old bike. I told him I’d rather him give away my new ten speed because that old bike was my friend. So I guess it shouldn’t have really shocked me that it was hard to say goodbye to my old friend the heat pump. But the more I thought about it, I realized that getting a new heat pump was just yet another indication that time is slipping away. It was the first appliance that I ever bought and thanks to lots of HVAC maintenance, it sure served us well. However, I’m eager to enjoy the new heat pump and all the new HVAC technology that goes with it as well.
