If something tears up around my house, I regularly try to maintain it myself before I call a professional.

• It’s not even so much that I want to save money on repairs as it is that I just like being able to do things myself.

I am just an independent lady and I have regularly been that way ever since I was a kid. My parents regularly talk about the way that I used to try to maintain my own bike and my own stereo and things like that when I was growing up. I would refuse to let anyone else help me with things that were broken unless it was truly necessary. I suppose that’s just something that’s in my personality, though. I can’t say that I’m any different now that I’m an adult unfortunately. I still never want to call a professional to maintain things around the beach house unless I absolutely have to. For instance, a few days ago my oil furnace broke down. I have a pretty old oil furnace and sometimes it just doesn’t seem to work right. When it tore up the other evening, I banged around on it a few times and after that we ended up taking it apart until I could see what in the world was going on with it. I figured out what the concern was, however there was no way for me to maintain the HVAC unit myself. It made me absolutely mad despite the fact that I ended up having to call the local Heating and Air Conditioning supplier to come and maintain the oil furnace for me. I would much rather have fixed it myself!
