Security system is part of a smart home

A smart home is no longer the way of the future

I had no plans to add a security system when I first looked into some home improvements. I began by wanting to upgrade to a smart thermostat. I figured that the ability to raise and lower temperature from an app on my smartphone would help to conserve energy and enhance comfort. As I researched different makes and models of smart thermostats, I learned about smart homes. Through a home automation system, the various appliances and systems of the home are controlled by a single hub. This streamlines and optimizes operation. There is the possibility of starting up the coffee maker, adjusting volume on a sound system, programming the washing machine and arranging lights to turn and off through the home automation system. When I contacted a company to set up the home automation system, the representative discussed a variety of options. One of them was home security features. He said that adding security components would lower my homeowner’s insurance. I liked the idea of increasing the safety of my home. Not only does the automated locks, alarm and surveillance cameras protect against a break-in but options such as moisture detection, carbon monoxide detection and smoke detection gives me peace of mind. I know that I’ll receive an immediate alert if there is any sign of a threat to my home. I’ll know if the sump pump fails and the basement begins to flood. I’ll know if a window gets broken, if there’s a fire or if someone enters the home. A smart home is no longer the way of the future. It’s something every current homeowner should consider.
