Leaving a heat pump for a gas furnace in the winter was tough
For sure, I completely underestimated the impact the change in climate would actually have on my life.
I learned really quick that our northern winters could be really brutal.
I was more excited about the promotion to really consider what it would be like to leave the heat pump for the gas furnace. The actual move was a good time and I was super excited about starting my new job. While I would have liked to stay in the office in the south, I wasn’t going to let going north stop my career progress. I really just kind of disregarded the fact that I would be dealing with freezing temperatures all winter. And that was a stupid idea for someone that was coming from the south and had no idea what was in store in a northern winter. Yet, I also knew that I had never engaged in a winter that needed more than the occasional heating from the heat pump. So going from this to a gas furnace was a really big deal. The truth is that I’m really still having a hard time as I’m going into my second winter. However, I spent the fall working toward sealing up the house really tight. I learned pretty quick that along with heating maintenance from the HVAC company, house prep was super important. So while I may not still get acclimated to the freezing temperatures, I’m going to be warmer in my house. Not only will my house be cozy with my gas furnace running all winter but I’ll be saving on heating cost thanks to winter prep.
