Giving a local kid a home gym
Giving a local kid a home gym
I have known Jim for his whole life, even since he was running around in diapers.
His family lives up the road from my farm, and although we have never been close friends we have always been friendly.
Now Jim is in high school, and is part of the track team. He takes his training very seriously, and I see him on the road out front almost every day. I spoke to him a few times and asked him why he didn’t join a gym, and Jim said it’s because they couldn’t afford the membership fees. I took Jim to an old barn on my property, and asked him if he wanted to earn the money for those gym membership fees. I wanted to clean out the whole barn, which was a workout program all by itself! When that was done, I had a trailer filled with old gym equipment that needed to be unloaded and set up. Jim understood what I was doing right away – not only was I giving him a chance to earn money for the gym, I was letting him set up his own home gym. Once he was done with the work, he would have 24/7 access to the barn and the home gym. He would also be able to afford the real gym in town, hopefully giving him all the tools he needs to jump to the next level of performance. I never had a son of my own, so being able to support Jim in his quest for personal physical training is good for me.
