Our parents were getting old and even though they were not dependent on anyone to get by we still felt the need to have them close to any of the four of us.

The problem was that they were adamant that they were fine living by themselves.

For three years we had been good through the same discussion and nothing came of it. Eventually one of my brothers bought a big house that had a detached guest house and it wasn’t until then did they agree to move in with him. The guest house was built like a mother-in-law suite but it did not have a working HVAC unit and since it was detached from the main house it did not benefit from the central air conditioning system in the main house. My other brother, who is a cooling tech, offered to set up the air conditioning unit. The rest of us chipped in to buy a quality air conditioner. The three of us always contacted our air conditioning expert brother for all our air conditioning services such as air conditioning tune-up and air conditioning repair. Because of him we could all comfortably change and replace an air filter. He was working towards owning his own air conditioning business and we all fully supported him. The cooling workman also suggested other cooling products to our parents but they thought that the main unit was enough because it had an indoor air cleaning system. What was now referred to as their house was complete and they finally moved it. It was such a relief to all of us now that we knew that one of us was keeping an eye on them. They were also happy to have some of their grandchildren within arm’s reach and at the same time still feel like they were living independently.
