My parents were sticklers about the Heating & A/C system when I was growing up, then my sibling & I were forbidden to touch the thermostat settings because my parents were convinced that they had it set the most efficiently.

One time, my sibling l earned the difficult way that if you touch the thermostat settings, punishment will be enforced.

He was grounded for 2 weeks & unable to use his cell PC simply because he lowered the AC by 2 degrees, then witnessing this, I vowed to never touch the thermostat no matter how sizzling or frosty I got. Whenever the people I was with and I would go on trip during the winter, my parents would set the thermostat to 55 degrees! This was ridiculously frosty & by the time the people I was with and I got home from our trip, our lake house felt care about it was situated in the north pole! As my sibling & I got older, the people I was with and I l earned more about Heating & A/C systems through modern technology & the people I was with and I found better ways to heat & cool our home efficiently. I think my sibling was still aggravated that he was grounded all those years ago for increasing the temperature because when he found out that my parents weren’t truly running their Heating & A/C system as efficiently as they had hoped, he had no problem proving to them that they weren’t, and setting their oil furnace to 55 degrees was truly doing more harm than good, because it required a tremendous amount of energy to heat a home from that temperature. My parents were in disbelief when he told them, but they had no option but to guess him when he showed them the proof!
