My dad had a grand idea to open up a roadside hotel near the new amusement park they were building. Dad was never good with business, and he had terrible timing, so he built the entire hotel before the park was finished. Then they pulled the plug on the park altogether, and we were stuck with a hotel in the middle of nowhere. We sold the house and moved into the hotel, and I am still living here today, with my own family. After some mild refurbishing, we are pushing the place online as an Air BnB destination. Most of the rooms needed air conditioning units, and that was a huge expense so we had to do it a little at a time. Back when the place was new, but never going to open for business, my dad had sold off most of the HVAC equipment and the electronics. Why have TV and AC in every room at that point, he reasoned, so he sold them off piecemeal to recoup some of his losses. Now that we wanted to have some guests, those rooms needed to have TV and AC once more. We started off with twelve rooms, and then we would fix the climate control in more rooms as needed. Much to our surprise, those twelve rooms were booked solid for a month within a few days ,so we called the HVAC contractor back up and asked for more work. It turns out that abandoned theme park has become a tourist destination because it is rumored to be haunted, so maybe dad was right after all.
