I didn’t want to help out on Saturdays

When I turned sixteen, I wanted a car.

My mom and dad had plenty of money and I expected them to buy me a car.

I was really upset when the car came with stipulations. My mom and dad owned an appliance store. They opened the business when my brothers and I were kids and the place is still open for business after 35 years. My mom and dad bought me a very nice car, but I had to work at the appliance store every Saturday and Sunday. A lot of my friends had brand new cars and they didn’t have to work. I was very upset and angry with my parents because they were making me work. As an adult, I realize how immature and awful I was. My mom and dad bought me a nice car and I only worked two days a week for six hours on each day. The job wasn’t that difficult either. I worked at the counter and filled orders. The store had lots of different appliances like washers, dryers, heaters, air conditioners, and dishwashers. Most of the time I didn’t have to answer a lot of questions. A lot of customers were commercial clients or contractors that were ordering items for other customers. I met my first real boyfriend when I was working at the store. His name was Jack and he drove a mustang convertible. His dad sent him to pick up a space heater and I was working at the counter. Jack was easily the cutest boy in my senior class and my date that year for the senior prom.
