How to efficiently heat your home in the winter

If you live in a colder climate, you may spend a large portion of your salary on your energy bill to heat your home.

MAny homeowners want to find the most efficient way to keep their house warm all winter long without breaking the bank.

While there are many ways to bring warmth into your home, some of them are more energy efficient than others. Electric space heaters may seem like a good idea, as they are typically inexpensive up front, and may seem like a more economical option, they are incredibly inefficient. Portable electric space heaters only heat up one room, or a portion of a room, at a time. Other types of portable space heaters use flammable gases, or emit toxic exhaust which can be extremely harmful. Electric blankets seem like a cozy alternative also, but they can be incredibly dangerous as well, as the wires tend to lose integrity when they are in bed with you and can cause fires or serious injury. Radiant heated flooring is a great way to keep your home warm, without huge spikes in energy consumption. Heated floors are typically a larger investment up front, but will save you money in the long run by keeping the ambient temperature of your home at a constant. The best way, however, to make sure your home is being heated efficiently is to schedule regular maintenance with your local HVAC company to service your furnace. This way, the technician who inspects your system will make sure it is in the best operating order it can be, ensuring your home stays warm all winter long without surprising spikes to your energy bill.
