I was not raised in a place that experienced the sort of winter that I experience now.

My home region was more of a 4 distinct seasons sort of weather.

However, the winter was hardly ever really cold. We would get snow a handful of times throughout the winter. There would be the one or two super cold snaps but that was really it. Nothing an HVAC heat pump couldn’t handle. Those winters simply don’t compare, in any way, to the serious winter of the north. Winter is on up here. It is a relentless 6 months at least of full on furnace heat just to be warm. So, when the calendar starts edging toward April and May, I start getting excited about being able to turn the dang furnace off. However, the furnace is off about a month or so before I have to kick on the air conditioning. This year, that transition didn’t go so well. I work at home and as soon as my office gets a bit uncomfortable, I flip on the A/C. This year, it seemed like the air conditioning just sounded funny. I told myself I was being crazy because it was certainly pumping cool air through the house. However, a few weeks late I was not super surprised when the HVAC cooling system stopped working. The HVAC guy came out and replaced a part so it was working again. The bitter pill was when he told me the bad part would have been caught had I made my normal HVAC maintenance appointment. I won’t be skipping those anymore.
