Taking being frugal a little too far
Of course she also doesn’t run the AC in her car, so anytime we go anywhere I insist on driving
Some people take budgeting to the extreme. I clip coupons sometimes, and am not afraid to be thrifty so I can save up some money, but there are limits. My best friend Linda calls herself an extreme saver, but to me she is just plain nuts. Don’t get me wrong I love her to death, but I do not understand a lot of her choices in life. Why would someone endure such discomfort on a regular basis to save a few bucks? To me that is what money is for, to spend on things that make your life better! Sure I could save a bundle of money every month if I stopped using air conditioning, but why would I do that? I could be miserable with a few more bucks in the bank, or use those bucks to run the A/C and enjoy myself a whole lot more. Linda will only run her central air conditioner for one hour a day, that is all she allows herself. She says that one hour of cooling is enough to take the edge off, and cool her bedroom down enough to get some sleep. Overnight her house starts heating up again, and she is damp with sweat by the time she wakes up, but she says it works for her. Of course she also doesn’t run the AC in her car, so anytime we go anywhere I insist on driving. When the summers get very hot, I notice that Linda starts fishing for invites, to come over and hang out in my air conditioning.
