Seal up that house – new insulation above and below
Seal up that house – new insulation above and below
I never knew a single thing about home ownership before I found myself in possession of this property.
Honestly, I didn’t ask for any of this responsibility.
Our old family house was left to me when my grandfather passed away. Now, it is my job to make sure that everything is in tip-top shape around the residence whether I know what I’m doing or not. I’m consistently trying to renovate the home so it would be livable for one of my family members or sellable for a profit. Unfortunately, the house is lacking modern amenities. When I received it, the house had an outdated central heating, cooling, and air quality control system that was not up to today’s modern energy Efficiency standards. You had to run in the central heating and cooling system all day and all night to maintain any kind of indoor air quality. The energy bills were constantly through the roof and I knew that the HVAC equipment was only part of the problem. The other issue is the horrible lack of insulation in the house. I realized a long time ago that the attic had decrepit insulation in place that did not contain any of the high-quality treated indoor air. The doors and windows were extremely drafty and needed extra insulation. Furthermore, there was no buffer between the bitterly cold basement and the first floor. By insulating all of these areas I effectively decreased the energy inefficiency problem and bought myself a little extra time to replace the central HVAC system. At least I’m learning how to be a responsible homeowner now.
