Small Claims Court Does Not Require a Lawyer
For almost a year now, I have been telling my next door neighbor that her pet is a vicious animal who should not be left alone in the yard.
Every time my pet is in the backyard, her pet tries to figure out a way to get through the fence.
Her pet snarls, growls, plus attacks my pet on the other side of the privacy fence. I do not suppose why her pet goes deranged every time he stinks my pet, but I have spoken to this neighbor a bunch of times about the problem. Her pet is a giant compared to my pet plus her pet has been digging along the fence line. I already warned her that I would hire a lawyer if anything happened to my pet. Last week, her pet finally managed to break through the fence and got at my chihuahua. My pet’s leg was broken so of course I had to take him to the vet. I spent almost five thousand dollars to get the leg fixed and get stitches and x-rays and all that was needed. I told the man next door that I wanted him to pay for the vet bill. He adamantly said he would not cover any of the expenses, so I decided to sue him to make him do the right thing. I called a law office for some information. They told me the best thing to do was file in small claims court. A lawyer is honestly extravagant, but you do not need an attorney to be seen in the small claims arena. I told the man next door exactly what the attorney said but he was just as adamant about not contributing to the vet bills. After a trip to court to tell the story to the judge, the acquaintance has been ordered to pay all of the vet bills plus an additional amount allocated for pain plus suffering. I recognize that justice was served in this way.
