Gas fireplace just keeps on going

Gas fireplace just keeps on going

My gas fireplace is well over 10 years old. I keep thinking that it is eventually going to die. Buying a new heating system is expensive and time consuming. I will need to find an HVAC business that is close to my pitiful town. I will need an HVAC contractor willing to install the heater for a low cost. I also will need to pick the right heating device from my home. I haven’t needed to do these things yet since my husband has proven to be very handy. Every now and then the heater decides not to turn on. I think this is it, and then my husband proves me wrong. He can get the heater back up and running, stop the horrible grinding noises and clean the inside of it. The newest heater repair he did was quite impressive. I could not get the fireplace to turn on, the wireless remote did not even show life. My husband decided that the starter within the fireplace had dead batteries so the remote could not connect to it. He ripped off the front of our heater, stuck his head inside and found the starter. The batteries had totally overheated and corroded. He had to buy a new piece and replace it. He even saw the furnace filter, blower and motor while sticking his head up there and cleaned them. Now that everything is cleaned and replaced, the fireplace works perfectly. Guess we have another year with this system. At this rate I will be dead before the gas fireplace.
